I. Introduction
Transferrin (TRF), also known as siderophilin, is a glycoprotein, with an approximate molecular weight of 76.5 kDa. It is considered to have been created as a result of an ancient gene duplication event leading to generation of homologous C- and N-terminal domains, each of which can reversibly bind to a ferric ion. In vivo, transferrin plays a critical role in the ferric ion transport and metabolism, and thus is an important extracellular antioxidant. In vitro, it has a very important role in serum-free medium to prevent the damage to cells by free radicals, sustain cell growth and proliferation and maintain extracellular iron balance.
The drug product is Recombinant Human Transferrin, expressed by fermentation of HEK293 cells constructed by genetic engineering, with a humanized sequence. The materials are strictly controlled, for which the drug product has no risk of animal origins, and its quality is stable and controllable.

III. Storage and Transportation Stability
Lyophilized transferrin is stable up to one year when stored at a temperature ≤-20°C.
The recombinant human transferrin solution can be stored at 2-8°C for 2-7 days.
Aliquots of recombinant human transferrin sample is stable up to 3 months when stored at a temperature ≤-20°C.
IV. Advantages
No origin of animals: It is produced by recombination, without exogenetic viral contamination, and no materials of animal origin are used in the manufacturing process.
Stable quality: batch production (10+ g production and supply), which can ensure steady and continuous batch production; no difference between batches, for which stable quality can be assured.
High purity: host protein; residual macromolecular proteins below the limit requirement for biologics.
Lyophilized powder: easy for storage and transportation.
Regulatory compliance: The manufacturing equipment and environment conform to the related regulatory requirements, and the manufacturing process fully follows NSF ISO 9001:2015 and complies with GMP.
Complete quality documents: Supporting documents for regulatory compliance are available as per customer requirement.
V. How to Use
Be sure to centrifuge the test tube prior to opening, and do not mix on a vortex mixer or using a pipette. It is not recommended to re-prepare to a concentration less than 100 μg/mL;
Dissolve the lyophilized transferrin in distilled water, and aliquot the resulting solution to reduce freeze-thaw cycles as far as possible.
Recommended concentration for cell culture: 2-20 mg/L.
Cell lines recommended: pluripotent stem cell, mesenchymal stem cell and muscle stem cell;
CHO and HEK293 cells for production of antibodies and proteins;
Vero cells, BHK cells and diploid cells used for production of virions;
Often added for the growth promotion test in the T and NK cell proliferation.
